Item Tracking

The Lot / Serial No. assignment can be assigned in the VLC Smart shipping application or we can check or compare with Business Central assigned Lot / Serial No. which are assigned before processing the shipment.

You can apply Lot / Serial No. tracking to your items. A lot tracking system is one that records information associated with a batch of products and allows you to track several units of stock using the same lot or batch No.

In VLC Smart Shipping Application, we can assign Lot / Serial No. in two types of applications we access.

  • Standard Application
  • Advanced Application

Before we assign, we need to enable the setup in the configuration. In the Packing Center, “Update Order Item Tracking” is enabled, we can update the item Tracking information while processing the shipments. For this “Update Order Item Tracking” must be true in the Packing Center.

In the Pack Order Screen, after scanning the order and before creating the package we need to specify Item Tracking information of Lot / Serial No.’s.

Please find the below steps to assign Lot / Serial No.’s.

  1. In the Pack Order Screen, Scan or enter the Order No. to process shipments.
  2. Enter No. of packages of the shipment.
  3. Now click on the “Item Tracking Lines” option.
  4. Notice the window “Item Tracking Lines”.
  5. Enter Item No. to process.
  6. Enter the Qty of an item to process, with not more than the available qty in the Lines.
  7. Now based on the item type related, notice the message and Lot / Serial No.
  8. Repeat step 7 if an item is related to Lot or more than 1 Lot.
  9. Repeat steps 5 to 8 for all the items that belong to the current package.
  10. Close the window and notice that the quantity filled in the lines which are entered on the previous screen.
  11. Please enter the weight and dimensions if required.
  12. Close the Package.
  13. Repeat steps 3 to 12 if the shipment is multiple packages.

Note: If the Lot / Serial No. is assigned in Business Central, it will not allow you to enter different or new Lot / Serial No.’s assigned from Business Central. This step is to cross-verify if the item that has been collected is defined in Business Central.  For this “Update Order Item Tracking” must be false in Packing Center.

Standard Application:

After creating the package, if we want to change the Lot / Serial No. assigned, please follow the below steps.

  1. In the Pack Order Screen, Scan or enter Order No.
  2. Select “View Packages” options from the top menu.
  3. Notice the “Packages List” window.
  4. Select the package to modify Lot / Serial No.
  5. Notice the “Package Card” window.
  6. Select the Item to modify from the Package Card Lines.
  7. Select “Item Tracking Lines” from the “Package Card” top menu.
  8. Notice the “Item Tracking Lines” window.
  9. From the lines delete the Lot / Serial No.
  10. Now enter the Lot / Serial No.
  11. Repeat steps 6 to 10 for all the items in a package if required.

Advanced Application:

After creating the package, if we want to change the Lot / Serial No. assigned, please follow the below steps.

  1. From the Packing List screen, navigate to the package to modify.
  2. Notice the Package Card screen.
  3. Select “Item Tracking Lines” from the “Package Card” top menu.
  4. Notice the “Item Tracking Lines” window.
  5. From the lines delete the Lot / Serial No.
  6. Now enter the Lot / Serial No.
